More than 75,000 electric customers were still without power across the state Friday, June 12, after severe weather swept across Michigan Thursday night.
A strong band of severe storms moved across the state west to east Thursday evening, with some areas experiencing 70 mph wind gusts or stronger. The storm spawned multiple tornado warnings.
At 7:45 a.m. Thursday, 79,424 customers statewide were without power, according to Poweroutage.us.
Consumers Energy said it had restored power to more than 14,000 customers since the start of turbulent weather.
“Our crews have made tremendous progress restoring power to homes and businesses across the state and will continue working to ensure all remaining customers are restored as quickly and safely as possible,” said Jean Kang, one of Consumers Energy’s officers in charge for restoration. “Our customers rely on us to provide energy they can count on and we are committed to working around the clock until every customer impacted by this series of storms is restored.”
Consumers said as restoration efforts continue, crews will focus on hardest hit areas, assessing damage and addressing repairs.
Outages Friday morning were spread across in Michigan’s Lower Peninsula, with most reported in Wayne, Barry, St. Joseph, Lenawee, Cass, Macomb, Branch and Allegan counties. Outages included 32,470 Consumers Energy customers.
Wayne County had more than 18,000 outages while Barry had more than 7,000. St Joseph County had 6,133 outages.
Depending on the electrical service you have, you can check the latest status of your power outage, how widespread the outage is, an estimated restoration time and more.
