Michigan bill would guarantee employees the right to sit during work shifts

LANSING, Mich. (News 10) – A new bill in the Michigan State House would guarantee employees have the ability to sit down during their shifts.
Under this bill introduced by a group of Michigan state House Democrats, if it is reasonable for an employee to sit down while they work, their employer would have to provide a suitable seat. That could be a chair, bench or stool with back support.
If an employee cannot do their work while sitting down, their employer would have to provide a seat nearby to use while they aren’t working.
Employers could not penalize workers for using their seats.
The bill has been referred to the State House Committee on Government Operations.
