LANSING,Mich.—ThelatestKidsCountDataBookrevealstroublingtrendsforMichigan’seducationsystem,withthestateranking44thineducationand33rdinoverallchildwell-being.
Thereporthighlightsadeclineinfourth-gradereadingandeighth-grademathscores,with75%offourthgradersnotproficientinreadingandonlyoneinfoureighthgradersproficientinmath.
“Wesawduringthepandemicjustthehugeimpactthatthosedisruptionstoclasstimeinschoolclasstimereallyhadonstudents,”saidanunnamedsource.“Butofcourseit’simportanttorememberthateverystatewascopingwiththoseissuesandsomestateshavealreadystartedtoseesomeimprovementsinspendandMichiganisnotoneofthem.”
