Theanalysiscomparesthepricesofthreespecialtydrugsacross53Michiganhospitalsandsuggeststhatevenwithinasinglehealthsystem,thechargesbilledtopatientsandtheirhealthinsuranceplanscanvarybyasmuchas$14,600forthesamemedicationatthesamedosage—andweresometimesmorethan800%higherthanthemanufacturer’saveragesalesprice.
