A Roadmap For Safety: Policies to Reduce Gun Violence in Michigan

TheJohnsHopkinsCenterforGunViolenceSolutionsattheBloombergSchoolofPublicHealthhasreleasedanewpolicyroadmaptoassistMichiganlegislatorsastheyseektoimprovestatelawandprotectpublichealth.ThoughMichiganhasmadesubstantialprogressinpassingpoliciestopreventgunviolenceinthestate,therearestillpathwaysforwardtobetterprotecttheirresidentsandcommunitiesfromfirearm-relatedharms.Thisreportoffersseveralrecommendations,backedbyempiricalresearch,thatstateleadersshouldadopt.Therecommendationsaredividedamongsevenmainissueareaswithanoverviewofthecurrentstatelawandrelevantresearch.
Whiletheserecommendationsarenotanexhaustivelist,enactingtheseevidence-basedpolicieswillhelptoreducetheburdenofgunviolenceinMichigan.Aspublichealthpractitioners,werecommendthatMichigan:

2)Strengthenpubliccarryregulations
3)StrengthentheFirearmPurchaserLicensingprocess
4)StrengthenDomesticViolencePreventionpro
