Pistons unable to overcome injuries, suspensions in loss to ThunderOklahoma City — With their best player down and three others suspended, the Detroit Pistons’ exit from the Paycom Center with a win would have required a miracle. And 30 seconds into the game, there was a slight chance for the Pistons to pull off a major upset against the Oklahoma City Thunder on Wednesday night.
Tobias Harris scored a two-handed dunk assisted by Tim Hardaway Jr. at the 11:33 mark of the first quarter. Harris’ basket was the first field goal of the night. But more importantly, he gave the Pistons a 2-0 lead.
Detroit led for 19 seconds when Jalen Williams (23 points and five rebounds) knocked down a 3-point basket to give the Thunder a one-point advantage. Williams’ field goal gave the Thunder a lead they would not relinquish for the rest of the game, while Harris’ bucket proved that the Pistons would not be an inferior opponent.
