Honey, maple syrup makers could sell more under proposed Michigan cottage food law change

LANSING, MI – Honey and maple syrup makers in Michigan stand to get equal financial treatment under the state’s cottage food law with proposed legislation in Lansing.

Both state House and Senate members are working on updates to Michigan codes to achieve a shopping list of changes for those who make food in their homes to sell at farmers markets and roadside stands. Notably, honey and maple syrup makers may be lifted to the same income cap as all other cottage food producers after years of being limited to a lower threshold.
