DETROIT(AP)—FormerNFLandUniversityofMichiganassistantfootballcoachMattWeisshackedintothecomputeraccountsofthousandsofcollegeathletesseekingintimatephotosandvideos,accordingtoanindictmentfiledThursday.
Weiss,whoworkedfortheBaltimoreRavensbeforejoiningMichigan’sstaffin2021,waschargedwith14countsofunauthorizedcomputeraccessand10countsofidentitytheft.
TheindictmentwasfiledinfederalcourtinDetroit.
Weisswasfiredin2023asMichigan’sco-offensivecoordinatorafterfailingtocooperatewiththeschool’sinvestigationofhisaccesstocomputers.
Phoneandemailmessagesseekingcommentfromhisattorney,DougMullkoff,werenotimmediatelyreturnedThursday.
From2015to2023,Weissgainedaccesstothedatabasesofmorethan100collegesanduniversitiesthatweremaintainedbyathird-partyvendor,KefferDevelopmentServices,andthendownloadedpersonalinformationandmedicaldataofmorethan150,000athletes,theindictmentstates.
