MICHIGAN. (WLUC) – As we near the 25th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks in New York, many organizations are finding ways to honor and remember those who were lost. This includes the Michigan Department of Transportation.
On Friday, MDOT will close all border crossings in Michigan in commemoration of the attacks, according to an MDOT Facebook post.
The post says traffic will be cleared before 8:46 a.m. At that time, taps will be played as the flag is raised, followed by a moment of silence at all ports of entry. The closure should be 30 minutes or less.
The following border crossings will be included:
Sault Ste. Marie International Bridge
Blue Water Bridge
Gordie Howe International Bridge
Detroit-Windsor Tunnel
Ambassador Bridge
The post urges drivers to plan accordingly and allow for extra time if crossing the border on Friday morning. Normal operations will resume immediately after the observance.
