Misprinted state ID’s go out to thousands. How Michigan is fixing it
About 8,200 Michiganders who recently renewed their state ID or license received a misprinted card in the mail this past week that included wrong photos and information, the Michigan Secretary of State’s Office announced on Sept. 5.
“The misprinted licenses/IDs have a stock photo and date of birth printed in the lower right-hand corner instead of the cardholder’s information,” the SOS said in a news release. “The misprinted information is generic and is not the information of another resident.”
The misprints are a result of an error by the state’s vendor Idemia, a security service that offers companies and governments identification products.
The error affected a batch of ID’s printed on Wednesday, Aug. 26, 2026.
The state agency said it has already sent new and corrected cards to the residents who were impacted.
Those who have not received their card can also go online or visit a Secretary of State branch office in person to print a temporary license while they wait for their replacement. If your original license or ID hasn’t expired, you may continue to use it.
