Michigan health leaders urge back-to-school vaccinations

LANSING, Mich. (News 10) – State health leaders are urging families to make sure children are up to date on their vaccinations before the new school year.
During a roundtable Thursday, doctors will outline the vaccines children may need before returning to the classroom and stress the importance of immunizations in preventing the spread of serious diseases.
The discussion comes as the United States is experiencing its highest number of measles cases in 35 years, already surpassing the total reported in all of 2025 with five months remaining in 2026.
Speakers also will discuss why the weeks leading up to the start of school are an ideal time for families to catch up on vaccinations, Michigan’s rising school vaccine waiver rate and how parents can access immunization data for their child’s school online.
The roundtable is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. News 10 will livestream the event on the News 10+ streaming app.
