More than 80,000 electric customers across the state were without power at 7:30 a.m. Thursday, June 11, after severe weather swept west to east across Michigan Wednesday afternoon, causing damage and outages.
A strong band of thunderstorms moved across Michigan Wednesday afternoon and evening, with heavy rain and high winds.
At 7:30 a.m. Thursday, 84,477 customers statewide were without power, according to Poweroutage.us.
Consumers Energy said it has restored power to more than 50,000 customers as crews worked through the night to repair infrastructure and restore power to customers.
“More than 500 crews restored power overnight to over 50,000 customers following heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and flooding across the state,” a post from Consumers reads. “Today (Thursday, June 11), Mother Nature will continue impacting Michigan with additional bouts of severe weather and a chance for tornados. Crews will be strategically staged as storms advance throughout the state.”
Outages Tuesday morning were clustered in Michigan’s Lower Peninsula, with most reported in Barry, Kent, Kalamazoo, Allegan, Ionia, Ottawa, Newaygo and Ingham counties. Outages included 70,598 Consumers Energy customers.
Barry County had more than 13,157 outages while Kent had more than 10,000. Kalamazoo County had 7,029 outages.
