This Day in Michigan History: Lake St. Clair was discovered
—
LANSING, Mich. (WILX) – On this day, August 12, 1967, French explorer La Salle named the freshwater lake between Michigan and Ontario, Lake St. Clair.
Fed by the St. Clair River, the lake became a vital link in the Great Lakes Waterway.
Today, it remains an important hub for shipping, fishing, and recreation.
