CHICAGO — FEMA has awarded $33.3 million to reimburse Michigan local governments and an electrical cooperative for costs incurred responding to the March 2025 severe winter storm, including Great Lakes Energy Cooperative.
The funding reimburses emergency protective measures and debris removal services completed to restore power, clear roads and protect public infrastructure and lives.
These awards are distributed through FEMA’s Public Assistance program, which provides funding to local government jurisdictions and eligible private non-profits for the repair, replacement, or restoration of disaster-damaged infrastructure as well as costs incurred for debris removal, disaster cleanup and emergency actions taken.
FEMA — Federal Emergency Management Agency — disburses this money to states and local communities because they are best positioned to know how these funds will be most effectively spent.
This latest round of FEMA Public Assistance grants in Michigan includes:
“These projects are the latest examples of billions of dollars in disaster recovery provided by FEMA to support state and local communities as they work to rebuild from recent natural disasters.” it said in a news release from FEMA. “FEMA continues its renewed commitment to help communities recover from disasters like hurricanes, severe storms, tornadoes and wildfires while making them more resilient from future disasters.”
