Hundreds of people imprisoned at Michigan’s largest, private immigration detention centerlaunched a hunger strike this week, according to multiple sources with direct knowledge of the protest. However, federal immigration officials dispute that there is a strike while defending conditions at the facility.
Advocates for detained immigrants are alleging inadequate medical care and food, among other issues, at the North Lake Processing Center in Baldwin, Michigan. They also want clarity on when there might be a decision on when they are deported or released, lambasting notoriously long delays in deciding immigration cases and the Trump administration’s push to deny bond in all civil deportation cases.
