Michigan gas prices hit record high, AAA says
Gas prices in Michigan hit a record high this week, at $3.92, according to AAA – The Auto Club Group.
The price is 33 cents since last week and the highest since August 2023, according to AAA.
It is $1.07 more than a month ago and 74 cents higher than the same time in 2025, officials said.
Motorists in the state are paying an average of $59 for a full 15-gallon tank of gasoline, AAA reported.
“Gas prices continued to rise nationwide over the last week as seasonal factors, combined with ongoing supply concerns tied to the continued disruption in the Strait of Hormuz, pushed both gasoline and diesel prices sharply higher,” said Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy, in a release Monday.
“It now appears increasingly likely that the national average price of gasoline will reach the $4-per-gallon mark—potentially as early as this week—for the first time since 2022, while diesel prices are surging to multi-year highs, with some markets nearing record territory. There are few signs of stabilization so far, as global oil prices continue to climb and early indications suggest consumers may begin to pull back in response to the rapid pace of increases.”
AAA reports the national pump price is at $3.96.
GasBuddy said the national average price of gasoline is $3.92, a 24-cent jump since last week.
The price rose by 99 cents since last month and is 84 cents higher than the same time a year ago, according to data compiled from more than 11 million weekly price reports covering some 150,000 gas stations across the country.
Average gasoline prices in Detroit jumped 29 cents per gallon in the last week, averaging $3.90 Monday, according to GasBuddy’s survey of 1,734 stations.
Prices in Detroit are 98 cents higher than last month and stand 81 cents per gallon above a year ago.
The consumer gas company reported Sunday the cheapest gas station in Detroit and lowest in the state was priced at $3.09. The most expensive price in the city was $4.79 and the highest price in the state was $4.82.Metro Detroit’s current average is $3.93 per gallon. That’s about 29 cents more than last week and 81 cents more than the same time in 2025.
The most expensive gas price averages are in Ann Arbor ($3.95), Marquette ($3.95) and Jackson ($3.94).
The least expensive are in Traverse City ($3.75), Saginaw ($3.86) and Flint ($3.88).
“Pump prices across Michigan have jumped rapidly with drivers paying the highest prices since the summer of 2023,” said Adrienne Woodland, AAA’s spokesperson, in a release.
