The start of 2026 brings lowest gas price average in Michigan since 2021

MICHIGAN (WLUC) – Michigan drivers are entering the first full week of the new year with lower gas prices.
The state average is down 11 cents from a week ago.
AAA of Michigan reports that, depending on where a person lives, they’re paying an average of $2.70 for a gallon of regular unleaded gas.
That is the lowest the state average has been since February of 2021.
Meanwhile,thenationalaverageis11centshigherthanMichigan,at$2.81pergallon.
AAAreportsthatwhilerecentdevelopmentsinVenezuelahavedrawnattention,oilpricesremainrelativelystable.Friday’sclosingpriceforU.S.crudeoilwas$57.32perbarrel,upjust58centsfromthepreviousweek.AlthoughVenezuelawasonceasignificantproducerofcrudeoil,itsexportshavebeenlimitedforyearsduetosanctions.Analystssayglobalsupplyremainssufficient,thoughanymajordisruptioncouldputupwardpressureonprices.
InUpperMichigan,thelowestaverageisinDeltaCountyat$2.42pergallon.WhilethehighestisstillinMackinacCountyat$3.12.
