ButsincePresidentDonaldTrumpbeganhissecondterminJanuaryandbeganscrappingfederalclimateprogramshereferstocollectivelyas“thegreennewscam,”Michiganhasseenawaveofprojectandgrantcancellations,alongwithrenewedinvestmentinfossilfuel-basedmanufacturingandpowergeneration.
Roughly$540millioninclimate-relatedgrantstoMichiganhavebeencanceledorheldupsinceInaugurationDay,accordingtoanationaldatabasecompiledbyAtlasPublicPolicy,whileshiftingmarketforcesandtheendoffederaltaxcreditsforelectricvehicleshavecausedcleanmanufacturinginvestmentsinMichigantowhipsawfrombillionsannuallyinrecentyearsto$3billionincanceledinvestmentsthisyear.
