School official on leave after comments about transgender athlete, and 4 other major stories

The athletic director of a Southeast Michigan high school has been placed on paid leave after speaking on a recent podcast and expressing sympathy for a transgender athlete whose identity has become a source of public scrutiny.

The appearance of Chet Hesson, of Monroe High School, last week on Uncloseted Media and his subsequent leave is one of five “must-read” stories for this morning Friday, Dec. 19.
