YouTube survival challenge in Michigan forest ends in dramatic rescue

OSTEGOCOUNTY,Mich.–AYouTubesurvivalchallengetookadangerousturnforoneCaliforniawomanwhobecamestrandedforhoursinPigeonRiverStateForestovertheweekend.
Inasocialmediapost,theOstegoCountySheriff’sOfficesaidthewomanwasparticipatinginanoutdoorsurvivalcontestwhenshebecamelost.Accordingtothepost,thewomanleftthecontestants’designatedbasecamptosearchforwateraround5p.mFridayevening.
Whenshedidn’treturn,thecontesthostssearchedforherthemselvesbeforereportinghermissingaround5a.mSaturdaymorning.
TheMichiganStatePoliceSeventhDistrictwascalledintoassistwiththesearch,includingtheMSPAviationUnit.Finally,ahelicopterlocatedthewomaninaswampyareaoftheforestaround10:40a.m.MSPcanineunitshelpedguidefirstrespondersonthegroundtoherlocation.Thewomanhadnoseriousinjuries.
