ThepercentageofthirdgraderswhometorexceededproficiencyinreadingintheDetroitschooldistrictlastspringreachedan11-yearhigh,newlyreleasedstatestandardizedtestresultsshow.
Theresultsofthe2024-25MichiganStudentTestofEducationalProgress,orM-STEP,provideaglimpseofhowtheDetroitPublicSchoolsCommunityDistrict’seffortstoimproveliteracy,includingitsplantoinvestmillionsin“righttoread”lawsuitsettlementmoney,ismakinganimpact.Muchoftheinvestmentincludedhiringhundredsofacademicinterventioniststoworkone-on-oneorinsmallgroupswithstudentsintheearlygrades.
