TheMichiganDepartmentofNaturalResourcessaysithasstockpiledMichiganwaterswith18millionfishsofarthisyear.
Fishstocking,aprocessinwhichofficialsraiseandreleasebothcoolandcoldwaterspeciesinstatewaters,occursyear-round,withadditionalfishstockingsplannedforthefall.
In2025,theDNRhasstocked18,958,000fish,requiring417stockingtrips.Thefishstockedtotaledmorethan331.5tons,andconsistedof10differentspeciesandonehybrid.
Crewsworked2,345hoursandtraveledjustover91,000milesin17specializedstockingtruckstogettothe716stockingsitesacrossMichigan,theDNRsaid.
“WehadanotherexcellentspringandsummerstockingseasonthatwillbringecologicalbenefitsandfishingopportunitiestoMichigananglers,”saidAaronSwitzer,DNRfishproductionmanager.“Thankstothehardworkanddedicationofourstaff,healthy,high-qualityfishwererearedanddeliveredtostockingsitesinexcellentcondition.Thenumbersproducedandstockedhitthetargetsformostareas.”
