TheMichiganDepartmentofNaturalResourcessaysithasstockpiledMichiganwaterswith18millionfishsofarthisyear. Fishstocking,aprocessinwhichofficialsraiseandreleasebothcoolandcoldwaterspeciesinstatewaters,occursyear-round,withadditionalfishstockingsplannedforthefall. In2025,theDNRhasstocked18,958,000fish,requiring417stockingtrips.Thefishstockedtotaledmorethan331.5tons,andconsistedof10differentspeciesandonehybrid.
