Medieval life, fairies and fun: What to know about the Michigan Renaissance Festival

The Michigan Renaissance Festival opens in mid-August and runs weekends through late September, a tradition at its grounds near Holly, in Oakland County. The annual festival centers around medieval European society, with highlights of global cultures as well. Festivalgoers also are know to “cosplay” as pirates, fairies, steampunks and other cultural styles loosely associated with the Renaissance.
“Hark! Cast aside your cares and embark upon a journey through time! In the village of HollyGrove, the 16th Century stirs once more, brimming with a day of revelry fit for a monarch,” the festival’s website reads.
