Michigan’scannabisregulatortoldstatelawmakersApril23thatthemarijuanaindustryisunderstrainfromfallingprices,illicitmarketactivityandtheriseofunregulated,intoxicatinghemp-derivedproductsthatcompetewithlicensedcannabisbusinesses.
BrianHanna,theexecutivedirectorofMichigan’sCannabisRegulatoryAgency,saidataregulatoryaffairsMichiganSenatecommitteemeeting,heldinLansing,thatthebiggestchallengestheagencyfacesthisyeararetheinabilitytosuspendlicensesforegregiousconduct,theincreasingsupplyofmarijuanaflowerthatoutpacesdemandandunregulatedandintoxicatinghempproductsthatarefloodingthemarket.
“Thisisaverychallengingenvironment,notonlyforthelicenseesandstakeholders,butfortheregulatoryagencyaswell,”Hannasaid.
PricesformarijuanagummieshavedroppedsignificantlysincetheseproductswerephotographedatadispensaryinNovember2021.
