Michigan voter citizenship amendment cleared to collect signatures for 2026 ballot

Signature collection will soon begin for a proposed constitutional amendment to appear on the 2026 ballot that would require proof of American citizenship to register to vote in Michigan.

The bipartisan Michigan Board of State Canvassers on Friday, April 18, unanimously approved summary language for the proposed constitutional amendment, allowing signature collection to commence.
