Michigan gas prices rise again, AAA says
Gas prices in Michigan have increased 4 cents since last week.
The average price for regular unleaded is $3.59, according to an announcement from AAA – The Auto Group Monday. The price is 61 cents more than a month ago and 55 cents higher than the same time in 2025, officials said.
Motorists in the state are paying an average of $54 for a full 15-gallon tank of gasoline, AAA reported.
“Consumers continue to feel the sting of rising oil, gasoline, and diesel costs as geopolitical tensions in the Middle East remain elevated, pushing gasoline prices to their highest levels in years while diesel could soon approach the $5-per-gallon mark nationally,” said Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy, in a release Monday.
“Until we see a meaningful resumption of oil flows through the Strait of Hormuz, upward pressure on fuel prices is likely to persist. At the same time, seasonal forces are beginning to intensify as several regions complete the transition to summer gasoline, creating a double headwind that could continue driving pump prices higher in the weeks ahead,” De Haan said.

AAA reports the national pump price is at $3.72.
GasBuddy says the national average price of gasoline is $3.68, a 23-cent jump since last week.
That price rose by 80 cents since last month and is 66 cents higher than this time in 2025, according to data compiled from more than 11 million weekly price reports covering some 150,000 gas stations across the country for GasBuddy.
Average gasoline prices in Detroit jumped 9 cents per gallon in the last week, averaging $3.61 Monday, according to GasBuddy’s survey of 1,734 stations.
Prices in Detroit are 66 cents higher than last month and stand 60 cents per gallon above a year ago.
The consumer gas company reported Sunday the cheapest gas station in Detroit and lowest in the state was priced at $2.89. The most expensive price in the city and the highest price in the state was $4.24.
Metro Detroit’s current average is $3.64 per gallon. That’s about 15 cents more than last week and 60 cents more than the same time a year ago.
The most expensive gas price averages are in Ann Arbor ($3.64), Metro Detroit ($3.64) and Jackson ($3.59).
The least expensive are in Traverse City ($3.49), Marquette ($3.52) and Benton Harbor ($3.52) .
“Michigan motorists have seen pump prices rise over the past two weeks as crude oil costs continue climbing,” said Adrienne Woodland, AAA’s spokesperson, in the release. “The good news is that while prices are still up, the pace of those increases has noticeably slowed in the past week.”
