How a small Michigan lakeshore town’s luge track created an Olympic champion

MUSKEGON, MI – When two-time Olympic medalist Mark Grimmette took his first slide at the newly built Muskegon luge 42 years ago, he never thought his path in life would lead him to one day becoming the sports program director for USA Luge.

Grimmette, 54, will be coaching for the upcoming 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan-Cortina d’Ampezzo, Italy. USA Luge will compete Feb. 7-12.
