Michigan Maritime Strategy: Whitmer unveils 10-year jobs and investment plan

Gov. Gretchen Whitmer announced Michigan’s first Maritime Strategy, a decade-long plan aimed at growing the state’s multi-billion-dollar maritime industry while protecting the Great Lakes.

The strategy provides a roadmap for attracting investment, creating jobs and strengthening Michigan’s water-based economy. Michigan ports currently support approximately 17,000 jobs and contribute $3.3 billion annually to the state economy, while water-based tourism supports about 45,000 jobs and generates nearly $12 billion each year.
