MDARD grant money to help Northern Michigan agri-businesses to expand

ThreecompaniesinNorthernMichiganwereamong26inthestatetoreceivegrantfundingfromtheMichiganDepartmentofAgricultureandRuralDevelopmentonThursday,Sept.18. TheMichiganDepartmentofAgricultureandRuralDevelopment(MDARD)awardedover$1.8millionof Underserved,ValueAddedandRegionalFoodSystemGrants toMichiganproducers,processorsandcommunitydevelopmentorganizations. “ThisgrantprogramisjustoneexampleofhowMDARDimprovesqualityoflifeforMichigandersbybolsteringthefoodsystemsandagriculturebusinessesthatsustainourhealthandprosperity,”MDARDDirectorTimBoringsaidinastatement.“Today’sgrantsarestrategicinvestmentsthatwillenhancetheproductionanddeliveryoflocallygrownfoodswhilecreatingmorethan100jobsacrossthestate.We’reproudtosupportthesebusinessesindeliveringfortheircommunities.” TheNorthernMichigancompaniesreceivingfundingincludeBearCreekOrganicsLLC ofPetoskey,whichreceived$82,
